Hi my name is Brien Francis, age 47 and have been running now for roughly 3.5 years. Previously I raced B.M.X. (KZN Colours 1988-1994, 2009 & 2011, Protea Colours 1992 and South African Champion 2011).
I started doing Parkrun during 2015 mainly to lose weight and then progressed to doing 5 to 10km trail runs that year. At the beginning of 2016 I progressed to road running and my first race was the PDAC 25km. In May 2016 I ran my first Marathon. I then decided to take on the Comrades in memory of my late father who finished the 2000 race but died in a running accident in 2002. Comrades Marathon allowed me the same number he ran in as this was still available.
Unfortunately for the 2017 up run I was ill on the day and had to withdraw at 52km’s in due to a gastric bug. I returned in 2018 for the Down run and finished in a time of 10h50 receiving a bronze medal. Going for my back to back at the 2019 up run.
