Zoe Brentano Murphy
I am 28 years old and have spent 20 of these years in running.
I am currently working as a Database Administrator, which means most of my day involves sitting behind a computer before heading out for a late afternoon training run.
I was introduced to running from a young age, attending road races with my dad ‘manning’ the club tent and supporting my sister and dad at track and cross country. Running basically makes up my DNA.
My very first race win came from Cross Country and to this day it remains my first ‘love’. I prefer the shorter distances where I can put my speed to the test. You will often find me at local Johannesburg 10km road races, cross country and a few short trail races.
I regularly take part in Orienteering (a sport which involves running with a map and navigating around a course from check point to check point) and I have represented South Africa twice as a junior. I also hold a UK Level 2 Orienteering coaching certificate, allowing me to coach our national and junior squads.
I love all aspects of sports and learning and educating myself on fitness and nutrition, which allows me to teach and help others to improve their athletic performance too. I hold a diploma in sports nutrition, ASA Level 1 coaching certificate and sports conditioning with speed, agility and quickness certificate. I am currently doing a course in Holistic and Sports massage as well a diploma in Sports Science and Therapy.
One of my favourite quotes is “Running is a mental sport and we are all insane” but I try to live by “If the plan doesn’t work, change the plan but never the goal”.
