Nkosikhona Mhlawwana

I’m a Professional athlete running under BOXER ATHLETICS CLUB and a sport fanatic specialising in athletics (track and field, cross country and road running), I’m currently in tertiary, doing third year in Bachelor of Education at University of Kwa-Zulu Natal Edgewood Campus at Pinetown in Kwa-Zulu Natal. I’ve been running for the past 10 years. I was born in Matatiele and grew up in Kwa-Zulu Natal at Howick in midlands where I spent my teen years.

In run track & field, I do 5000m & 10 000m, on Cross Country, I do 4km & 10km and in Road Running, I do 10km, 21km and 42km. At first, I was a soccer player, I got an injury on my left arm during a soccer match. After the days, I then tried to keep my fitness level with my jogs fortunately I was training at the athletics ground and there was a guy called Xolani Mabhida who saw me jogging and told me that I can be a good runner. I then joined his training team and my love for running grew as I was starting to learn more about running.

I decided to compete because I could see that I have a potential. My first competitive race was in 2008 and I achieved a medal in a very competitive field of runners during KwaNaloga Games held in Newcastle (called SALGA games now). From there I never look back as competing at a high level has changed my life in a positive way.

The highlights of my winning are as follows:
2018 Alan Paton 10km Winner
2018 Ingoje Trail Run 34km Winner
2018 Deloitte Marathon Winner
2018 PDAC 25km Winner
2017 Heroes Marathon Winner
2017 uThungulu Marathon Winner
2017 eThekwini Hope Challenge 10km Winner
2017 Stella 10km winner

Running has kept my body healthy, afforded me the opportunity to meet with good people who are positive in life. Shaped my life to know what I do day in day out of my life’s journey..
